Attention Porters Neck ResidentsImproving home improvement…
Worth noting is the Lowes store is just part of a larger commercial project proposed that will most likely include a Target and other retailers. While this brings convenience and employment opportunities, not everyone is happy. Environmentalists are concerned about the stormwater and wetland impacts. And some residents fear this will bring increased traffic and noise. According to a traffic study conducted by the developer, Lowes would generate 4,000 trips a day. How do you feel about having Lowes as a neighbor? If you don’t live in Porters Neck, can you recall a time something like this did happen near you? How did it ultimately turn out? 4 Responses to “Attention Porters Neck Residents”Leave a Reply |

Great news! Lowes offers an downloadable coupon at their website. Unfortunately it’s not valid at Lowes.com, however, it can be used at ANY Lowe’s store. The coupon is good to save 10% on Lowe’s purchase up to $5000!

It sounds like Lowes is hurting from the slowed housing market. The company’s 1st quarter earnings slipped 12.1% from 1st quarter 2006. It makes sense that home improvement retailers would lose business as homebuilders slow construction and home owners cut back on remodeling efforts. I wonder how this will affect motivation and funds available to build new Lowes.

We live about 8 minutes from that intersection where the proposed Lowe’s would be located. I am not too thrilled with the idea. When Walgreen’s recently went up on the corner, the lack of setback created a Gordon Rd and Market St. feeling, and the bright lights glaring out from the store at night it robbed the ambiance that that area provided. I would like to see some more oversight regarding aesthetic concerns when projects are in the planning stage. In my opinion Lowes would further commercialize this residential area, changing its character, and cause traffic congestion. Hopefully the environmental concerns will keep it a bay.

The porter’s neck area is a much better location for development given all the open space that is still left. Last year the Middlesound Loop area was confronted with Target. Luckily, Target changed their mind with all the opposition.
